Bahamas Bonanza - Spring Break Edition
We made it to Nassau and were so happy to see friend boats in the harbor - SV Emma, MV Summer Dream and SV Sapphire Blue. Rosie was once again in girl heaven and our days consisted of exploring Nassau and the Atlantis aquarium together and evenings of game nights and sleepovers.
We sadly said goodbye to Paulina who, in her short two months with us, became like a sister to Rosie and by far the preferred chef in the kitchen. We will miss her quiet presence and her willingness to fillet any fish and dance to any song.
The next day we took the boat into the Atlantis marina to prepare for the arrival of the Akays! And per usual, our time with them was nothing short of epic. We had a water park day at Atlantis and then took off for Eleuthera, where we would spend the rest of the week.
While Eleuthera wasn’t the clearest of the blue or the whitest of sand we’d seen, we more than made up for it with an incredible raft-up with SV @C and SV Emma. We created our own swimming pool and kids and adults from other boats came over to join the fun. Martin hooked up a zip line for the kids and we all literally played until the sun went down. It was one of the best days we’ve ever had while sailing, and it was the final goodbye to @C, who are heading north to hand over their boat to it’s new owner and then back to the Netherlands after their year “at sea”.
Eleuthera has it’s own pig beach, with well-trained pigs that you are welcome to hold. Of course we spent time there each morning. But the wind picked up and so we enjoyed exploring the island and having lunch on land with all of our boat friends. On our last day in Eleuthera, in spite of the wind, we found a secluded beach and set up camp. With food, football, sun and friends, it was a great end to our time there, even if we did get totally soaked on the dinghy ride back. Our last evening in Eleuthera we said goodbye to Farah, Greg and their family with a big potluck dinner on Big Emoceans. It was the last time we will see them for a long time.
The next day Big Em headed back to Nassau where we finally indulged Rosie in her favorite: minute-to-win-it games! They were hilarious as always and then we found ourselves having a dance party on the bow. We danced off a Carnival Cruise ship leaving the harbor, and then we danced goodbye to a cargo ship - and their crew members danced back! A successful family pyramid was really the cherry on top.
Having the Akays on board makes the sun shine brighter, the sky bluer and the jokes funnier. We always love having them visit and we can’t wait to see you again soon.
